Nov. 14, 2008 (China Knowledge) - China's real estate climate index dropped 6.06 points from a year earlier to 99.68 in October this year, 1.47 points lower than the previous month, according to figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The real estate climate index takes into account property prices, sales volumes and consumer confidence. A higher value indicates the real estate sector is more active.
The index of property development and investment was 101.94, down 1.28 points from September and 2.48 points from a year earlier.
Over the Jan.-Oct. period, the total investment in real estate development rose 24.6% year-on-year to RMB 2.3918 trillion, with that in residential housings up 27.4% to RMB 1.7482 trillion.
The index of funding source was 92.64, 2.49 and 12.26 points down from that of September and the same period of last year respectively.
The land development index was 95.05, down 0.64 points from September and down 2.57 points compared with a year- earlier respectively.
The unsold floor space index was 101.25, down 2.29 and 9.46 points from last month and the same month of last year.
By the end of October, the vacant floor space of commercial buildings went up 13.1% to 133 million square meters. Of which, that of residential housing rose 18% to 68.35 million square meters.
The index of floor space under construction was 103.28, 1.28 and 2.36 points of decrease from September and the same period of previous year respectively.
From January to October, the floor space of buildings under construction rose 18.7% year-on-year to 2.48 billion square meters.
